Chile - La Comida

In Chile the most abundant source of food is seafood. When the Spanish visited Chile in 1541 they brought tasty foods like grapes, olives, walnuts chestnuts, rice, wheat, citrus fruits, sugar, garlic, and spices and also brought meats like chicken, beef, sheep, pigs, rabbits, and sausages.
In Chile there are mainly Chilean sea bass and Salmon. European immigrants also had a great affect on the Chilean Cuisine.

All kind of meats are very popular in Chilean dishes from chicken to deer. Right now Chile is a leading producer and exporter of some of the best fruits, vegetables, seafood, and meats. Chile has some great food recipes and they are really tasty. One example of a tasty recipe that has lots of meat is a recipe called Arrollado de Chancho. It consist of chunks of pork wrapped in pork fat covered in red aji also called chili. Another is Bistec a lo Pobre. It is made of beefsteak, french fries, fried onions, and fried eggs all together. Finally a big meat filler is Parrilladda different kind of meats, sausages, and they might have entrails grilled over charcoal. Wine is also a big way they enhance their food since they are one of the worlds largest producers of wine and since Chile is located on the coastline fish and other sea life play a big role in their food culture.
For Christmas dinner they have common Chilean food like oven roasted chicken, turkey, or any other special meal. A drink they usually have is " Cola de Mono" or "Monkey Tail" which consist of coffee, milk, liquor, cinnamon, and sugar. They also have a cake they call it Pan de Pascua which is like a fruitcake. even so, it's a rich, dense spice cake, flavored with rum. It contains both fruits and nuts inside it. The word Pascua means both Christmas and Easter in Chile

In Chile, Empanadas is the traditional food it is a small pie/stuffed pastry which consist of olives, onions, beef,
raisins, black olives and hard boiled egg.Some Empanadas consist of seafood including mussels, crabs, shrimp w/cheese and/or prawns

A Berliner or Berlines is a round donut filled with manjar(jam/jelly) and custard. These treats are usually drank down with coffee or they can be eaten as an after school snack. They were brought to Chile with German immigrants.

In Chile lunch is one of the larger meals of the day so for breakfast they eat a light meal like a sandwich or toast, traditional lunch foods include Cazuela a clear broth made with rice,potato,corn, and meat. Pastel de choclo a corn casserole made with meat, olives and vegetables, this is a popular lunch summer dish.

Breakfast meals are usually small they consist of bread with a variety of toppings and they usually come with coffee or tea
bread is usually fresh. Usually Chileans use jelly or caramel like toppings.
